Are Rangemaster cookers reliable? For a conventional range cooker, broadly yes: they are simple, repairable machines, built in Royal Leamington Spa, with parts and an approved engineer network that the maker runs itself. But nobody publishes a failure rate you can check for free, the standard warranty is shorter than several rivals’, and the faults owners do report cluster in a few predictable places. This page sets out what the evidence actually shows, what goes wrong, and how to protect yourself, checked on 6 November 2026.

The short answer

  • The design is low-risk. A Rangemaster is a set of ordinary ovens, a grill and a hob in one wide body. The parts that wear out (oven elements, fan motors, door seals, thermostats, hob igniters) are standard, cheap and widely sold.
  • The warranty is middling. One year as standard, two years only if you register within 30 days of delivery. Aga gives five years on parts and Falcon three. A five-year Rangemaster promotion runs on cookers bought by 30 November 2026.
  • There is no published reliability score you can see for free. Which? surveys range cooker brands for reliability, including Rangemaster, but the brand table is for members only. Anyone quoting a precise Rangemaster failure rate without naming its source is guessing.
  • We found no UK safety recall of Rangemaster-branded cookers on GOV.UK. A US recall in September 2026 covered AGA-badged ranges built by the same company for the American market (details below).

What actually goes wrong

These are the faults that come up again and again in owners’ questions, Rangemaster’s own help pages and spare parts suppliers’ advice. None of them is unique to Rangemaster; they are the weak points of any multi-oven range cooker.

Hob burners that click but will not light, or do not spark at all. The single most common call. Rangemaster’s own FAQ lists the checks: the burner caps and crowns must be seated exactly right after cleaning, the gas supply must be on (test another gas appliance), and if there is no spark at all, check the cooker has power by seeing whether the clock is lit. Water or cleaner in the igniter after wiping the hob causes a lot of these, and it usually clears once dry.

An oven that stays cold while the fan runs. On electric fan ovens this is nearly always the circular fan element, a part designed to be replaced. An oven that overheats or burns food at sensible settings points to the thermostat instead.

Worn door seals. Heat escaping around the door makes cooking uneven and the door face hot. Seals are a routine replacement on any cooker that sees daily use.

Induction hob electronics. Induction models have power boards that can fail, and that repair costs more than a gas igniter. Several of the critical owner reviews posted on Trustpilot in 2026 are about induction hob failures. Rangemaster’s induction hob uses the same layout at every width, five zones and 7.36kW in total, so parts are common across the range.

Fan noise. A loud or grinding fan is a worn fan motor bearing. A brief tick from the elements as they heat and cool is normal.

What you do not tend to read about is a Rangemaster carcass, oven cavity or door simply wearing out. The vitreous enamel cavities and steel bodies outlast the electrical parts, which is why an old Rangemaster is usually worth repairing rather than replacing.

The warranty, and why registering matters

Rangemaster’s customer support FAQ is plain: “Our cookers come with a standard 1 year warranty. But if you register within 30 days of delivery, you will receive a further 12 month warranty absolutely free.” Register online, post the form packed in the oven, or phone consumer services on 01926 457628.

How that compares, from our range cooker warranty roundup:

Brand Standard cover
Aga 5 years parts, 12 months labour
Falcon 3 years parts and labour
Rangemaster 1 year, or 2 years if registered within 30 days
Smeg 2 years, 5 on listed models

A short warranty is not proof of poor reliability, but it does tell you how much risk the maker is willing to carry. For cookers bought by 30 November 2026, Rangemaster’s 5 year warranty promotion closes most of that gap; it has its own 28-day claim from delivery, separate from normal registration, so do both.

Outside any warranty you still have rights against the retailer: up to six years under the Consumer Rights Act for a fault that was there at the start, explained in our page on faulty cooker consumer rights.

Repairs and parts after the warranty

This is where Rangemaster is stronger than most rivals. Its FAQ says that out of warranty it offers a nationwide network of approved engineers trained on the whole range, genuine spare parts, and a fixed-price quote covering parts, labour and VAT (with exceptions). You can also buy parts direct by phone with your serial number, and independent spares sellers stock elements, thermostats, seals and igniters for most models.

Two useful details from the same FAQ: Rangemaster will tell you your cooker’s build date if you give consumer services the serial number, and it will post or email a copy of an old user guide if yours is lost. Both help when you are deciding whether a second-hand or inherited Rangemaster is worth fixing.

How Rangemaster tests its ovens

Rangemaster says its cookers are developed to BS EN 60350 and related standards, with cooking tests in every model during development: batches of small cakes (28g of mixture each) to map heat across the oven, scones and fruit cake at three temperatures, apple pies for a heavy load, and a full Christmas dinner including an 11.3kg (25lb) turkey. Grills are tested with toast and burgers for even browning. That is testing for cooking performance, not long-term durability, so it tells you the ovens should cook evenly when new, not how they will be at year ten.

The recall question

We searched GOV.UK’s product safety notices on 6 November 2026 and found no recall of Rangemaster-branded cookers. Rangemaster was not among the Glen Dimplex brands (Stoves, Belling, New World) named in the 2022 gas grill carbon monoxide notice.

In the US, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall on 10 September 2026 (number 26-756) of AGA Elise and Mercury dual fuel ranges and La Cornue CornuFĂ© ranges made between 19 March 2025 and 24 July 2026: about 3,992 units in the US and 336 in Canada. The cause was a missing cap on a gas test port, which can leak gas; no injuries were reported. These were American-market models sold under the AGA and La Cornue badges, but the CPSC names AGA Rangemaster as the manufacturer, so it is worth knowing about. It does not cover UK Rangemaster cookers.

Who owns Rangemaster now, and does it matter?

Rangemaster is a trading name of AGA Rangemaster Limited. Middleby bought the group in 2015, and since 2 February 2026 a 51% stake in Middleby’s residential kitchen business, AGA Rangemaster included, has belonged to an affiliate of the investment firm 26North Partners, with Middleby keeping 49%. Our Aga vs Rangemaster page covers the deal. Nothing yet suggests a change to how the cookers are built or serviced, but if you are buying for the long term, keep an eye on whether the parts and engineer service stay as described.

How to get a reliable Rangemaster

  1. Pick the simpler spec if reliability is your priority. A dual fuel or all-gas Classic has fewer electronics than an induction model with touch controls. Our Rangemaster dual fuel vs induction page covers the trade-offs, including the 32A or 45A supply.
  2. Register within 30 days of delivery, and claim the five-year promotion as well if you qualify.
  3. Keep water off the igniters. Wipe the hob with a damp, not wet, cloth and let it dry before lighting.
  4. Use enamel-safe cleaners in the ovens. Rangemaster warns against products that make the enamel peel, and recommends only hot soapy water on coloured panels.
  5. Replace door seals when they flatten or tear, rather than waiting for uneven cooking.

Frequently asked questions

Are Rangemaster cookers reliable? Broadly, yes. They are conventional range cookers whose wearing parts are cheap and easy to replace, with a maker-run engineer and parts service. No free, independent failure rate is published, and the standard warranty is only one year, or two if registered.

How long does a Rangemaster cooker last? Rangemaster does not publish a design life. As a planning figure, gas ranges tend to last around 15 to 20 years and electric ones 13 to 16 with maintenance, and the steel body usually outlasts elements, seals and thermostats, which can be replaced.

What is the most common Rangemaster fault? Hob burners that click but do not light, usually because a burner cap is misplaced after cleaning or the igniter is wet. A fan oven that stays cold with the fan running usually means a failed fan element.

How long is the Rangemaster warranty? One year as standard, extended to two years free if you register within 30 days of delivery. Eligible cookers bought by 30 November 2026 can get five years under a separate promotion.

Has there been a Rangemaster recall? We found no UK recall of Rangemaster-branded cookers on GOV.UK. A September 2026 US recall covered AGA and La Cornue badged dual fuel ranges made by AGA Rangemaster for the American market.

Is it worth repairing an old Rangemaster? Usually. Rangemaster can give the build date from the serial number, sells genuine parts, and offers fixed-price engineer repairs, so a worn element or seal on a sound cooker is normally cheaper to fix than to replace.
